Because

Because Because you prayed and sent your thoughts across the air To ask of God that every soul who felt despair, Would sleep tonight, then find tomorrow’s new-born day, Had chased their fears and sorrows right away. Because you prayed that war and earthly strife would cease, That all the nations of the world might live in peace. The peace of God, the spirits highest accolade, Will tranquillise your sleep this night, because you prayed. Because you smiled to cheer that soul who mourned a friend, Then made her understand that death is not the end. That life continues on in other spheres, Thus helping her to stem the flow of bitter tears. Because you smiled when in your own life, times were sad, Within God’s special keeping you’ll be domiciled. When you pass over from this life, because you smiled. Because you heard whenever someone called for help, and you leant a hand. Till they were fit once more upon their own account to stand, Then told them that they owed you nought for helping them along, Twas help someone had given you and said to pass it on. Because you heard when-ere God called and strove His will to do, And counted it an honour that the one He called was you. When you return to spirit, God will greet you with the words, “I know you, faithful spirit, You’re the one who always heard.” This poem was found on a flyer in Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral and I thought it wonderful to share it.
